Research
Research Focus
Food Chemistry, Addiction Studies, and Chemistry Education
My research endeavors focus on food chemistry, specifically, volatile organic compound (VOC) and elemental profiling of Philippine traditional alcoholic beverages with the goal of establishing product identity, safety, and for the protection of these culturally important beverages. This work also extends to other important agricultural commodity such as indigenous rice variety.
I collaborate with an addiction research group based in UPM National Institutes of Health, where I bring in my expertise in the measurement of abused inhalants such as toluene in an animal model of addiction.
My research undertakings in the field of chemistry education concern the improvement of pedagogical approaches in the teaching of chemistry, probing perceptions of chemistry majors on the effect of online learning on their future careers and developing home-based experiments as instructional intervention tools for analytical chemistry laboratory classes.
