The NMR Facility

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility

Information

The NMR machines housed at IChem were acquired in 2011 through the PharmaSeas Marine Drug Discovery Research Program funded by the DOST. Inaugurated in 2012, the NMR Facility hosts the 400 MHz and 500 MHz Varian NMR Spectrometers. This facility is a service laboratory which conducts routine 1D and 2D NMR experiments for different projects in the academe and industry. The 400 MHz NMR Spectrometer is equipped with a 5-mm One NMR probe and an autosampler. The 500 MHz NMR Spectrometer is currently equipped with a 3-mm triple resonance indirect detection probe.

  • NMR Analysis Fees
  • Sample Preparation & Submission
  • Fees only cover the analysis. Additional fees for the NMR tubes and deuterated solvent will be billed. A 25% administrative fee is also added to the total bill
  • A minimum basic half hour rate, or 50% down payment, whichever is higher must be made upon submission of samples. Please pay at the UPD Cashier’s Office.
  • The sample weight should be from 10 to 20 mg for the 1H and 13C analysis.
  • Samples should be dissolved in a deuterated solvent and transferred to an NMR tube. The 500 MHz spectrometer requires a 3-mm NMR tube, while the 400 MHz spectrometer requires a 5-mm NMR tube.
  • Ensure that the sample is completely soluble in the deuterated solvent. Otherwise, filter it before transferring to the NMR tubes.
  • Check the NMR Calendar to view the available schedule.
  • To reserve a slot, kindly send an email to nmr.chem.upd@up.edu.ph. Reservations are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Samples are submitted at most 2 days before your approved schedule to avoid evaporation of the solvent and are submitted with a filled out NMR Facility Form. Please fill in all the pertinent information such as name of user, sample, and experimental information. Kindly accomplish one form per sample.
  • A minimum basic half-hour rate, or 50% down payment, whichever is higher, must be made upon submission of samples. Additional 25% administrative charges will be applied to the total fees. Please pay at the UPD Cashier’s Office.
  • All experiments that will require more than a 30-minute run time will be run during the night queue with a 50% discounted rate on a 2-hour block schedule.
  • Data files will be available 5 to 10 working days from the actual analysis date.
  • Samples submitted will be disposed after one month if not claimed.
