The NMR Facility
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility
Information
The NMR machines housed at IChem were acquired in 2011 through the PharmaSeas Marine Drug Discovery Research Program funded by the DOST. Inaugurated in 2012, the NMR Facility hosts the 400 MHz and 500 MHz Varian NMR Spectrometers. This facility is a service laboratory which conducts routine 1D and 2D NMR experiments for different projects in the academe and industry. The 400 MHz NMR Spectrometer is equipped with a 5-mm One NMR probe and an autosampler. The 500 MHz NMR Spectrometer is currently equipped with a 3-mm triple resonance indirect detection probe.

- Additional charges for consumables (e.g. NMR tubes and deuterated solvents) will apply based on current rates.
- A minimum payment equal to either the basic half-hour rate or 50% of the total cost — whichever is higher — is required upon sample submission.
- All payments must be made through the UPD Cashier’s Office.
Sample Preparation
- The recommended sample weight is 10-20 mg for both the 1H and 13C NMR analysis.
- Samples must be dissolved in a deuterated solvent and transferred to a 3-mm NMR tube (required for the 500 MHz instrument).
- Ensure that the sample is fully soluble. If undissolved material remains, please filter before transfer.
- Only liquid samples are accepted. Presence of solids or precipitates may compromise spectral quality.
- The facility will not perform additional sample preparation. NMR spectral acquisition will be carried out directly on the submitted sample, without modification.
Sample Submission
- Check the NMR Calendar to view the available schedule.
- To reserve a slot, kindly send an email to nmr.chem.upd@up.edu.ph. Reservations are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Samples are submitted no more than 2 days before your approved schedule to schedule to minimize solvent evaporation.
- A completed NMR Facility Form must accompany each sample. One form per sample.
- Experiments requiring more than 30 minutes will be queued for overnight processing.
- Data files will be available 5-10 working days after the analysis date.
- Samples will be disposed of after one (1) month if unclaimed.
