Incoming new first-year students can earn credits for Chem 16 (General Chemistry I) and Chem 16.1 (General Chemistry Laboratory I) by passing the Advance Placement Exam (APE). Exam passers will be able to skip these courses for their program. The Chem 16 APE is a written exam, and the Chem 16.1 APE is a practical laboratory exam that may be taken only after passing the Chem 16 APE.
Chem 16 and Chem 16.1 are introductory chemistry courses offered by the Institute of Chemistry of UP Diliman. These are required courses for specific programs under the College of Science, College of Engineering, College of Home Economics, and College of Social Science and Philosophy, among others.

- Date of exam: June 23, 2026 (Tuesday)
- Venue: Institute of Chemistry Teaching Building
- Written Exam: 9:00 am – 11:00 am
- Lab exam: 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm (by batch)

General Information
- Eligibility: 2026xxxxx student number
- There is no registration fee.
- Results for the written exam will be announced between 12:30 – 1:00 pm.
- Taking the lab exam is optional.
- APE passers will earn 3-unit credits for Chem 16 and 2-unit credits for Chem 16.1. Credits are applied automatically, without a numerical grade.
- You cannot enroll in subjects you pass via APE.
What to Bring
- For both exams: UP Admission Notice, Photo ID (High School ID is acceptable)
- Written Exam: Scientific calculator, pencil, eraser, sharpener
- Lab Exam: Lab coat, lab goggles, closed shoes, and pants covering the ankles
